Reasons Not To Eat

I am unbalanced but I am not mad with snow. I am mad the way young girls are mad, with an offering, an offering I burn the way money burns.

    1. You will be FAT if you eat today. Just put it off one more day.
    2. You don't NEED food.
    3. Fat people can't fit everywhere.
    4. Guys will be able to pick you up without struggling.
    5. You'll be able to run faster without all that extra weight holding you back.
    6. People will remember you as the 'beautiful thin one.'
    7. If someone has to describe you, they'll say, 'oh, she weighs like 100, 110 lbs.'
    8. Guys will want to get to know you, not laugh at you and walk away.
    9. Starving is an example of excellent willpower.
    10. You will be able to see your beautiful, beautiful bones.
    11. Bones are clean and pure. Fat is dirty and hangs on your bones like a parasite.
    12. If you eat, you'll look like those disgusting, fat, ghetto and trailer-trash hookers on Jerry Springer.
    13. The models that everyone claim are beautiful, the spitting image of perfection, are any of them fat? ... NO....
    14. Too many people in America are obese.
    15. People who eat are selfish and unrealistic.
    16. Only fat people are attracted to fat people. Do you want pigs to like you because you are one of them?
    17. Anyone can have 'inner beauty,' but few can earn real beauty, inside as well as out.
    18. You'll be able to move as quietly and skillfully as a spider.
    19. Only thin people are graceful.
    20. If you slap a fat person, you can see a shockwave ripple over their skin. That's disgusting.
    21. Do you want people to say, 'For god's sake get off of me, you're crushing me; I can't breathe!' or 'You are soo light.' ????
    22. Underweight, a.k.a. perfect body.
    23. Ballerina? Or beanbag?
    24. I want to be light enough so a helium balloon could lift me and carry me to the clouds.
    25. I want to walk in the snow and leave no footprints.
    26. Starve off the parts you don't need. They're ugly and drag you down.
    27. Nothing can't be fixed with hunger and weightloss.
    28. Saying 'No, thanks,' to food is saying 'Yes, please,' to THIN!
    29. Fat people are so huge, people see through them and it's like they don't exist.
    30. The only time people notice a fat person is when they get in the way of that beautiful thin girl walking by.
    31. Have you ever seen a person NOT notice a walking skeleton?
    32. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.
    33. Is food more important than happiness in life? Your appearance to others?
    34. Eating is conforming.
    35. When you start to get dizzy and weak, you're almost there.
    36. Hunger is your friend and it won't betray you like food.
    37. Food is mean and sneaky. It tricks you into eating it and it works on you from the inside out, making you fat, bloated, ugly, and unhappy.
    38. Think of anorexia as your secret weapon.
    39. Thin people look good in ANY kind of clothes.
    40. If you can name one reason to be fat, we will name a million to be skinny. We'll name them even if you can't find a reason to be fat.

    What is Breatharianism?

Breatharianism is about having the choice whether to eat or not eat.
To never hunger or starve when food is not around, to never feel dependency or attachment to food, and to have found what is there once food is no longer in the way of our perception and focus. This is what breatharianism is about. True happiness, and a full freedom
of choices. To feel fully alive, safe, independent, and happy.
At all times, whether there is food or not. Life is so much more than what food lets us see.

    Then Why Do We Eat?

People, it seems, eat mainly due to reasons that are not based on an actual physical need of nutrients. This is why we have a huge amount of eating health damaging foods, foods such as drugs, white sugar, alcohol, white bread, and actually even vegetables or fruit is usually eaten without there being an actual demand of its nutrients by the body!

But isn't eating about pleasure and food sensations?

Yes, it seems to for most people. Very very few eaters consider nutrient needs, or even the effects their foods have on their bodies. However, what makes a person feel pleasure from eating foods that give cancer, headache, colds, nausea, kidney stones etc etc? The answer is that we are drawn to foods that give us physical suffering that equals our emotional - and unknown - suffering. We are drawn to the foods that make us feel the same pains that we have within. This is why people who are open to themselves, loving and accepting and alert of their emotions and personality, usually notice a disappearing pleasure from eating foods that truly are - damaging!

    Then, why not eat?

It is not always a matter of choice. Some people, for instance, never sit down to think "Should I eat or should I not eat?" They may grow increasinly sensitive to foods, and for obvious reasons do not want to keep eating foods that made them uncomfortable. Hunger vanishes, and they will start to lose sensations of pleasure from food. Not eating becomes a natural, normal part of life, none more peculiar than the eating is for the eating person!

But there are people who choose to live without eating, who want to acchieve it and do so with effort or by working on the subject either physically, emotionally, spiritually or in other ways.

Anything that can be found in foods, can be found even within the person. Just like some people really need a lot of money or to keep buying material items just to feel comfortable, and then we have people who do not feel the need of a lot of things but who feel the very same comfort and security. Money or no money, items or no items, food or no food. Some people need physical objects and physical occurences to acchieve a state of being which can just as well be acchieved without the physical counterpart. An example is that you can give a person a gift which is a physical item that is made to symbolise "gift", whereas you could also tell the person a friendly greeting or giving the non-physical form of a gift, and acchieve the same result in the person. Some people demand physical things, whereas other people are just as happy with the things that physical items symbolise. And it works.

Put that in your mouth and chew it...Or rather don't do that :)

    What is Ketosis???

Ketones are chemicals that your body produces as a by-product of combusting fat. You can buy "ketostix" which, when passed through urine, can tell you whether or not you are 'in ketosis'. Ketosis happens during fasting, low carbohydrate diets, pregnancy and it can be caused by diabetes. You use up your store of glycogen (blood sugar) and then your body permanently goes into fat burning mode to fuel your bodily functions. This change in metabolism occurs when the body no longer has incoming carbs to produce glycogen and after the liver has been depleted of stored glycogen. When either stored body fat or incoming dietary fat is used as fuel it breaks down into ketones.

Ketones can be used as fuel for your body or discarded via your breath or urination. It is the rise in ketone production that means you are in ketosis. Take note that although you are in ketosis this does not mean that you are *only* burning bodyfat. The released ketones may be from either bodyfat or dietary fat.

Why do we want to be in Ketsosis?

We want to be in a metabolic state where, without incoming carbs, and without consuming too many grams of dietary fat or protein, our bodies will be burning stored bodyfat as fuel. Positive side effects of being in ketosis are that it can be protein sparing (allowing us to retain lean body mass) and that it can lead to a decrease in appetite for some people.

NOTE: Ketosis is NOT ketoacidosis. There are two types of ketoacidosis: diabetic ketoacidosis (which is due to simultaneous rise in blood glucose and blood acidity) and alcoholic ketoacidosis (which is due to heavy alcohol consumption without food intake). If you do not fall into either of these groups your body should have the feedback loops that will keep ketone production in check. Ketones are produced daily by most people to some degree and are a part of the body's system of survival.

    What are Ketostix?

Measure the presence of ketones in the urine. It is important to remember that the sticks only tell you the level of ketones you are excreting through your urine. Readings can vary widely due to many factors: how many ketones are used for energy needs, how well hydrated you are (the more water taken in the more diluted the excretion), how much dietary fat is being burned, and the sensitivity of the ketostix themselves (they do not register low levels of ketone and they are very sensitive to contamination and age). The strips show the amount of ketones being release by the change of color on the testing area: light pink=trace and dark purple=heavy.

What are side effects of Ketosis?

Bad breath - which is due to ketones being released through your breath, drinking more water will lessen this effect. Some people also report that they get a metal taste in their mouth.

Strong urine odor - due to the presence of ketones.

Light headedness or "foggy" thinking. This does not occur in everyone and many who do feel this often are helped by making sure they are getting enough to eat, enough water and taking potassium supplements.

How long will it take you to reach ketosis?

It is dependent upon a few factors. Since you start the production ketones after the liver has been depleted of stored glycogen, the amount of stored glycogen is the primary factor. How much glycogen your liver has stored depends on your very recent calorie intake and activity. If you have already been on a low calorie plan you may have a small amount stored. Depleting the amount of glycogen you do have is dependent upon how fast you body uses up that storage. Therefore you can hasten the depletion of you glycogen storage by being more active. The other factor in developing ketosis is the how much free fatty acids are available to burn.

It takes effort -- and maybe anorexia -- to be model-thin

When model Christie Brinkley needs to get skinny, she consumes a liquid diet of fruit and vegetable juices.

Waif-like ice skater Peggy Fleming eats a slice of toast for breakfast and a half-cup of rice for dinner.

Model Elle Macpherson chooses between lunch or dinner, but not both. She also does 500 sit-ups a day.

You want to look like a model or movie star?

Have the body mass index of an 8-year-old.

Models and female movie stars' dubious secrets of fitness and dieting are shared by author and former model Diane Irons in her new book, "The World's Best-Kept Diet Secrets" (Sourcebooks, $14.95).

"The difference is, their looks have become their fortune, so they have pulled every trick in the book to get thin and stay there. Their livelihood depends on it," Irons says.

While Irons' book is fascinating because it dares to share the outrageous measures to which models and actresses will go to stay slim, a more alarming new report comes from Dr. Patricia Owen, professor of psychology at St. Mary's University in San Antonio.

Just about the time the government was compiling its sobering information about fat Americans and hefty BMIs, Owen and graduate student Erika Lauren compiled 500 models' statistics from the Web sites of modeling agencies and collected measurements of Playboy centerfolds from 1985 to 1997. They calculated the BMIs of both groups.

The result? One-quarter of each group met the American Psychological Association's weight criteria for anorexia nervosa -- a BMI of 17.5 or below. Virtually all the centerfolds were underweight, and so were three-quarters of the models. Centerfolds have gotten increasingly thinner and less curvy over the years.

"If these models are exemplars of beauty, then the measure for women is that to be beautiful, starvation-level thinness is required," Owen says.

BMI figures compiled by the Free Press from Irons' book and celebrity Web sites confirm Owen's research and extend it to actresses.

Actresses Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz and singer Diana Ross all have BMIs under 17.5.

Supermodels Kate Moss, Niki Taylor and Elle Macpherson have BMIs under 17 and exist at "third world starvation BMI criteria," Owen says.

Lisa Dergan, Playboy's Miss July, has a BMI of 18.3, which is underweight and typical of centerfolds, whose BMIs hover at 18.2 in Owen's research (however, Michigan's Karen McDougal, 27, became 1998 Playmate of the Year with a healthy BMI of 19). Very few weight and height statistics are available for heavier actors and actresses.

In light of the new National Institutes of Health report on American obesity, the figures are ironic.

"The models are getting skinnier and skinnier, and we're getting fatter," Owen says.

"And women think, if the models are beautiful, what does that make me?"

    Sane, perhaps?

    Tricks of the trade...

Irons' book reveals that in order to maintain BMIs of 16.5 or 17, models and actresses employ every oddball technique under the sun -- risky juice fasts, garlic and papaya diets, cabbage and grapefruit diets. They also follow simultaneously hilarious and frightening diet secrets that Irons swears work for the beautiful bodies:

-Never eat any anything bigger than your head. "You'll only stretch your stomach out."

-Don't swallow. "Models and other successful bodies are also known for taking a forbidden bite, chewing and spitting it out."

-Make your room freezing at night so you expend calories by shivering to keep warm.

-If you get a craving for chocolate, take a whiff of strong perfume. Put perfume on a hanky and "put it up to your nose when you pass a bakery."

-Suck on a fruit pit for 15 minutes after you're done eating the fruit because "it keeps the flavor in my mouth, and makes me think I'm still enjoying the fruit."

Owens hopes that the new BMI figures will prompt Americans to focus not just on obesity, but on society's obsession with thinness in our sex and beauty symbols: "The new BMIs ...were looking at only the dangers of overweight -- which I think is very one-sided given the health dangers associated with being underweight."
